ON OUR WAY TO MEET MONET AT PAPPY & HARRIET'S FOR BINGO'S DREAM BAND the other night, a dove came to the door of my nomadhouse. literally, walked right in. i stood in awe of it for five or more minutes, with krissie, shay and sage as witnesses. even negra's presence didn't scare it off. finally, it walked off and flew away. ANYWAY, this weekend our "president," george w. bush was dining with some of his rich friends in rancho mirage - or "down below," as we say in the high desert - before being heliported to the marine base in 29 palms to feed some expensive lies to some of the poor kids he is about to offer up as a sacrifice, for what my friend carol peterson calls "demon-crazy," or "democracy" in iraq. since i couldn't afford the dinner (and i imagine the food is too rich for my taste) and can't be on the base to greet him, i decided to use MYSPACE place to send a message. two of the songs are unreleased , "sinking in" and "here comes the idiot son" and the other two are alternate takes of songs from the "help wanted" album, including one recorded "LIVE" in washington dc while bush was being re-inaugurated last year...go to www.myspace.com/tedquinn to hear the tunes... i hope you enjoy them. also, please help yourself to the album "dog years" at www.tedquinn.com/dogyears. peace, tq here is a favorite photo krissie took recently of the lovely monet and our baby buddha boy, sage aka santi (as named by the thai buddhists in landers) and although the trip to l.a. was for a sad occasion, of bidding farewell to my old friend jeff morrison, the man who lived in a shed, we had a good lunch at old el coyote with jeremy, terry greene, pasquale amodeo and his wife stephanie (who took the picture and shared her guacamole with sage!!) it was a chance for sage to see his grandma and grampa quinn..and his aunt diane...sage loves his avocado!!! back at the beatnik, we danced...

DO SOMETHING/DO NOTHING DO SOMETHING/DO NOTHING >Humane Immigration Reform/I Have a Dream: Si se Puede > >SI SE PUEDE is deeper than YES WE CAN. > >SI SE PUEDE = IT IS POSSIBLE! > >I HAVE A DREAM AND IT IS POSSIBLE TO MAKE IT COME TRUE! > >This past weekend at an immigrant march in Birmingham, Alabama, the Rev. Derrill Wilson of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference spoke to people gathered at Kelly Ingram Park, where the police turned fire hoses on black children during the civil rights protests in 1963. "This is holy ground, he said. Here you stand up for yourselves. Stand up for everyone. And most of all, stand up for your children." > >The plan for May 1, 2006 is to hold a national boycott in solidarity for the cause of immigrant rights. By participating in the boycott, you can send a message to the leadership of this country and the rest of the world and support the dignity of millions of immigrant workers in the US who face economic exploitation, social ostracism and broken families. > >Remember the Fugitive Slave Law or Fugitive Slave Act that was passed by the United States Congress on September 18, 1850. The Fugitive Slave Bill of 1850 made any official who did not arrest an alleged runaway slave liable to a fine of $1,000. Law-enforcement officials everywhere in the United States had the duty to arrest anyone suspected of being a runaway slave on no more evidence than a claimant's sworn testimony of ownership. The suspected slave could not ask for a jury trial or testify on his or her own behalf. In addition, any person aiding a runaway slave by providing food or shelter was to be subject to six months' imprisonment and a $1,000 fine. Officers capturing a fugitive slave were entitled to a fee for their work. Sound familiar? > >We cannot allow the US Congress to raise illegal immigration to a felony offense and nor can we allow giving assistance, including food and water, to illegal immigrants to the level of a crime. >Immigrants contribute to the US and global economy, therefore they should have the right to hold a job without fear. > >Do not go to work or school on May 1. > >Do not spend a single dollar on May 1. > >Do not purchase anything from any of these companies on May 1. > >Coca Cola-Dunkin Donuts-McDonalds-Burger King-Starbucks-Costco-Gap- K-Mart-Home Depot-Target-Quicksilver-Sears-Crispy Cream-Del Monte- Foods-Jack in the Box-KFC-Payless Shoes-Wal-Mart-Dominos Pizza-Office Depot-Chevron-Exxon-Mobil-IBM-Intel-Pizza Hut-Carls Jr.-Safeway-Longs Drugs-Walgreens-Dennys-Footlocker-Circuit City-7-11- >ETC. > >SUPPORT THE BOYCOTT FOR IMMIGRANT RIGHTS ON MAY 1, 2006 > >GIVE RISE TO A BROADER MOVEMENT DON'T BUY GAS FROM EXXON/MOBIL , EVER!! JEFF MORRISON Well there was a man who lived in a shed Spent most of his days out of his head For his shed was rotten let in the rain Said it was enough to drive any man insane When it rained He felt so bad When it snowed he felt just simply sad. Well there was a girl who lived nearby Whenever he saw her he could only simply sigh But she lived in a house so very big and grand For him it seemed like some very distant land So when he called her His shed to mend, She said I'm sorry you'll just have to find a friend. Well this story is not so very new But the man is me, yes and the girl is you So leave your house come into my shed Please stop my world from raining through my head Please don't think I'm not your sort You'll find that sheds are nicer than you thought. -Nick Drake clockwise from left, Jeremy Gilien, Stephen Gibson-Camp, Johnny Vargas, Jeff Morrison, Herb Swanagan, center, Ted Quinn (circa 1986) "Poverty boys Playing chamber pop" The New Flesh Remember when We were the New Flesh When the smoke filled the room And the grass was fresh A million songs floating though The skylight in that room Where my friends and I spent Every sunny afternoon Which of us would capture one We never knew But always there were harmonies to try And a new song to do We crossed the Pettus Bridge To that rose colored road Looking for some place that was open all night From high upon the ridge We watched the village below Listening for the sirens to call us into flight Remember when We were the New Flesh When the dogs chased the ball And we made a silent wish A million images flickering Across a small blue screen Where loneliness and belonging Found some halfway in between Which of us would leave the rest We never knew But there were always our fantasies To carry us through -tq 04/15/06
