In Celebration of Sabu
Sunday August 10 5pm
Beatnik Cafe Joshua Tree
the greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love
and be loved in return.
-eden ahbez
let my soul smile through my heart and my heart
smile through my eyes, that I may scatter rich smiles
in sad hearts.
-paramahansa yogananda
this world is a multitude of delights...i love it. i
look forward to nothing. i look forward to everything.
-sabu
nobody i have ever met embodied yogananda's words
like sabu. as you may already know, george ahumada,
known to his many friends as sabu, ascended from his
body on july 13 at the age of 75.
when we first met, he bore the gifts of flowers,
fresh fruit and a rich smile flowing from his heart
and soul, pouring out through his sparkling eyes.
through his final days, his love was expressed with
that same magnificence of spirit.
his challenge was to make goodness irresistable.
part swami and part showman, his voice will always be
heard in the hearts of the many people he inspired
with his joyfullness.
on august 10, i'll go back to one of the places
where sabu felt most at home, the beatnik cafe, to
celebrate our dearest heckler, an original nature
boy, who implored us all to love life, ourselves, our
bodies and eachother.
please bring a grapefruit or a rose, a ragged book
of inspirational quotes, a song, a poem, or just a
memory of sabu, to scatter among our saddened hearts.
sabu will be there, i think, to gift us again with his
smiling soul.

a multitude of delights
"i'm giving you one last shot...can you hear me? it's normal to be insecure about this or that. but you shouldn't run it into the ground. it's not easy to be on the high ALL the time. but you've got no excuse to be bored. there's nothing that's boring. this world is a multitude of delights. i haven't felt this cozy in months. what does that tell you, brother? what does that say? you know what i mean. you and i are in the same canoe. we have to find other sources of entertainment. you were there, when you were there, you were there. never take life for granted. look where i'm at...but i'm not tired of it. i love it. i look forward to nothing. i look forward to everything."
george ahumada aka sabu
4/14/28 - 7/13/03
i was trying to write down the words he said to me before we went to sleep on friday night (7/11/03). sabu was one of my best friends and one of the most beautiful people i ever knew. he always gave it to me straight. no bullshit. "did you do your twenty push-ups today?" he made 'goodness irresistable.' he said that caring is all that matters. i will miss my dear old friend.
